Crisis Text Line

  • Anonymous, 24/7 texting hotline for those in crisis

  • Includes 30 hours of training in reflective listening, collaborative problem solving, and crisis management

  • Crisis Counselors commit to volunteering 4 hours per week until 200 hours are reached

  • Various volunteer opportunities such as virtual positions, blood donor support, and disaster health service associates

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly 

  • National Network of non-profit volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly 

  • This opportunity is virtual

Become a Contact Tracer

  • Become trained to become a contact tracer who contacts individuals who may have come into contact with a COVID-19 positive individual

  • The Contact Tracer will use a web-based client resource management (CRM) platform to call all contacts of anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 to document a symptom check, refer them for testing according to established protocols, and provide them with instructions for quarantine.

  • This opportunity is virtual

Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary

  • Volunteers work in a variety of areas at MEEI: front desk, surgical center, chart room, family waiting room, adult inpatient and pediatric units

  • Prospective volunteers must fill out an online application and send it to Milton Calderon, head of volunteer services

  • In-person interviews will be held after they receive your application

  • Completion of the application does not guarantee you a volunteer position

  • This opportunity is in-person

Boston Children's Hospital

  • Volunteers can choose to work in either an inpatient/clinical or customer service setting

    • Opportunities include: interacting with patients and families in waiting rooms (read books, play games, engage in art projects), cleaning and organizing toy supplies, miscellaneous tasks assigned by the supervisor, etc.

  • BCH also offers several “Special Assignments” to volunteers who wish to get more involved

Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center

  • BIDMC offers volunteer opportunities in both clinical and non-clinical settings in over 50 different departments throughout their medical center

  • Volunteers are expected to commit to a total of 40 hours; positions involving patient contact require a 6-12 month commitment

  • Prospective volunteers must fill out and submit an online application form

  • There are no deadlines to apply

  • This opportunity is in-person

Rosie's Place

  • Founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the U.S.

  • Mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity, and find security

  • Rosie’s Place offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities with a variety of commitment levels

  • Volunteers have the opportunity to teach women English, prepare and serve meals, lead art workshops, assist guests shopping in the food pantry, etc.

  • This opportunity is in-person

Massachusetts General Hospital

  • MGH volunteers are involved in a variety of activities throughout the hospital

  • A sample list of activities include: patient escort, cancer clinic volunteer, museum docent, book cart, pet therapy, etc.

  • All volunteers must commit to 4 months of uninterrupted service

  • Volunteers are accepted on a monthly basis

Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program

  • Variety of opportunities for individuals looking to make a regular, weekly commitment

  • All volunteers must be 18 years or older and able to commit to at least 6 months of service

  • To apply, prospective volunteers must complete an online application and attend an in-person orientation

Brigham & Women's Hospital

  • Medical Career Exploration Program

    • Three part program featuring a rotation of assignments that builds experience and culminates in  letter of recommendation and the opportunity to round with a physician for a day

    • Minimum commitment of 12 months and 140 hours

    • Applicants accepted on a monthly basis
